How to make use of SSH.

Secure Shell, more commonly known as SSH, represents a way to remotely manage a web hosting account or a dedicated/VPS machine by using the integrated Linux terminal. SSH lacks the GUI (graphical user interface) of a typical Web Hosting Control Panel tool like cPanel or of our proprietary Control Panel solution – all the actions are carried out via text commands.

It may seem a bit complicated, but it’s actually really easy and quite user-friendly, even if that last part is hard to believe. If you have never ever dealt with a Linux OS, then think of the SSH as a type of a command line interpreter, such as the Command Prompt, which is present in most Windows distributions. If you have worked with Linux or Mac OS, then you already know what to do. In SSH, all you have to do is type commands, which will be carried out by the server. This has several advantages – you never have to worry about browser crashes; you will be able to monitor exactly what is happening and everything will happen a lot faster. The commands are usually very close to the actions they represent – for example, if you want to delete a file, type “rm” and then – the file name. In this case, “rm” stands for “remove”. To create a new folder, type in “mkdir”, which stands for “make a directory”. SSH access is a must-have for every VPS or Dedicated Server owner who wishes to get more involved in the management of his machine. And for the owners of our Base VPS server – it’s the only way to control your server, as it is shipped without a Control Panel tool.
