Creative Solutions

Ideas can come from the strangest places. Creative genius comes to people who are open to new ideas and seeing different ways of doing things. For example, in 1964 the freighter Al Kuwait, which was carrying 6,000 live sheep capsized and sank in Kuwait's harbour. The sunken ship with its decomposing cargo was presenting a serious threat to the country's water supply through its desalination processing plant.

 Keep WALKING...

Walking 30 minutes a day cuts the rate of people becoming diabetic by more than half and it cuts the risk of people over 60 becoming diabetic by almost 70 percent. Walking cuts the risk of stroke by more than 25 percent. Walking reduces hypertension. The body has over 100,000 miles of blood vessels. Those blood vessels are more supple and healthier when we walk. Walking cuts the risk of cancer as well as diabetes and stroke. Women who walk have a 20 percent lower likelihood of getting breast cancer and a 31 percent lower risk of getting colon cancer. Women with breast cancer who walk regularly can reduce their recurrence rate and their mortality rate by over 50 percent. The human body works better when we walk. The body resists diseases better when we walk, and the body heals faster when we walk. We don't have to walk a lot. Thirty minutes a day has a huge impact on our health. Men who walk thirty minutes a day have a significantly lower level of prostate cancer. Men who walk regul

     Calculating Misery

Male or female, young or old; there is a great power within each one of us. Earth has many seasons like summer, fall, spring and rain which the Sun does not have. Similarly, it is the body that goes through the changes of aging from child to youth…adulthood…to old age while the mind is ageless. We can keep our minds in total alertness and joy, at all ages. 'This is easier said than done,' you may think! Is it really possible? Yes, it is one hundred percent possible! But we need to practice certain things to achieve this. We need to see a lot, listen a lot! Everyone has eyes and ears. Everyone sees and listens! But is every one full of vigour and joy?' Pens and pencil are mere tools, so are eyes and ears. If only one knows how to use a pen and pencil does one become a writer or artist? In the same way, if eyes and ears are used effectively, happiness can be attained.        Most of us focus our attention on what is not in front of us. We miss seeing things in front of us.

Unicity through diversity.

One of the greatest ego-trips is the belief in individuality. It is that belief the one originating separation among human beings. That separation expresses itself through a competitive attitude. If you are number "1" in something, there must be number "2," "3," etc. "I" need to become this or that. "I" need to arrive there all by myself, with my "own effort," "I" must control "my" life and "my" environment; so I can become successful, well-known, somebody… In that way the world will know about "me" and "my" greatness, and "I" will be an example for humanity to emulate and they will follow "me," and "I" will be teaching them to be "like me," the "right way." Then, everyone will remember me when "I" die.. and "I" will be helping them from "up above," (so "I" will continue on) so things will

The process of self-healing.

Everything has a process in life. The process between being born and dying is what we call life. The process on how daylight changes into night, we call day. The process on how an infant becomes an engineer, we call "studying." The process on how an enemy becomes a friend, we call reconciliation. In Spirituality to respect that process of change is very important. For example, any sort of denial of something that we used to like, "cold turkey;" will have later consequences if we have not "processed" that process. If I am used to eating meat and I have developed a taste for it; there is a process in becoming vegetarian. If I am to live alone to discover my inner world; there is a process to that end. If celibacy is my chosen path; there is a process to get there. That process changes among individuals. We are not the same. That is what is truly important to respect. Many times, we acquire a disease unknowingly, due to lack of self-observation: Anger could b

Nurse Discusses 5 Regrets People Tell Her Before They Die.

For many years I worked in palliative care. My patients were those who had gone home to die. Some incredibly special times were shared. I was with them for the last three to twelve weeks of their lives. People grow a lot when they are faced with their own mortality. I learnt never to underestimate someone's capacity for growth. Some changes were phenomenal. Each experienced a variety of emotions, as expected, denial, fear, anger, remorse, more denial and eventually acceptance. Every single patient found their peace before they departed though, every one of them. When questioned about any regrets they had or anything they would do differently, common themes surfaced again and again. Here are the most common five: 1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. This was the most common regret of all. When people realize that their life is almost over and look back clearly on it, it is easy to see how many dreams have gone unfulfill

On emptiness, world service and compassion.

It was a windy but sunny day near a small beach by the Bay. Mathias was speaking with his friends, Raysha and Anand about transformation of the self.   The topic of emptiness was discussed. Emptiness as the absence of prejudices, beliefs, ideas, analysis, preconceptions, worries etc; which are clouding the mind from feeling at peace and harmony.   Anand: "Mathias, how do we increase the experience of emptiness?"   Mathias: Emptiness comes to you when you understand the rhythms of the mind and the heart. When you have understood the word harmony. It is a state where the being is away from prejudices. It is a state of appreciation beyond questioning. It is an instant in which you let go, as if you surrender to the experience.   Emptiness could be experienced in different levels, but the "great emptiness" will allow you the metamorphosis to live in a different manner. As it has happened to Raysha already. Big emptiness. Your cells, your body, your mind will be filled

Walking

Excuses…Excuses…Excuses The ideal exercise for everyone is walking, for a longer, healthier life. 1. The safest and best form of exercise. 2.  Ideal for developing long term cardiovascular fitness and improving respiratory efficiency. 3.  The perfect activity for weight loss and burning away fat and unwanted calories.  II Ideal for conditioning the hips, thighs and stomach muscles. The ideal way to beat the stress – positive approach for a healthy body and mind.  Appropriate for young and old.  Walking is cheap, flexible in time, speed and location to suit any age. But there are some who are lazy, feel it's a hard work and put forth many excuses: Exercise! – that sounds like hard work for me. It seems that many people do think that exercise is too much like hard work. They may even think of it as an X-rated activity – exercise! – Something best to be avoided. This is true for many people who start out on strenuous exercise programs, injure themselves and give it all up, but if you

Marriage For A Better Future

The Marriage Dictionary!  A new dictionary is soon to come out, defining some issues in marriage that people were curious about. Here are some of the definitions we thought we'd offer to include in it:

DO WE PERFORM OUR DUTY TO OUR PARENT?

The parents nowadays are quite worried about the behavioral changes in their children due to several socio-economical reasons. The gap between parents and the younger generations, is increasing day by day due to which the family bonding is getting weaker and weaker. They have forgotten the countless efforts and sacrifices made by their parents throughout their lives. Since  birth we ate the  food provided by them -  many lakes of times!!! Our  household expenses,  maintenance, educational needs,  daily coaching etc., was attended by them free of cost.  All our requirements  under the sky, from childhood till we started earning our own income, was provided by them at their cost, despite their financial conditions and ability,  until we became  independent  to enjoy and survive in this world. The services of our parents cannot be listed as it will run to volumes.  All that we can do in return is  our moral and spiritual responsibility to take care of them now when they are helpless Give

'Just Be It'.

In our pursuit of speed and excellence we are caught in wanting to do more, plus better, plus faster! But how productive are we in reality? As we get sucked into the illusion of being a 'human doing', we forget that we are really meant to be 'human beings'! Have you ever stopped to ask yourself the million-dollar question… Who are you really? Each day we work frantically hard, get stressed, lose our happiness and health, and still we do not find what we are looking for. It seems that the disease of our time is to work against the clock and still not feel satisfied with the result at the end of the day. We have forgotten that we are souls on a human journey, not bodies on a spiritual journey. The fact that we are consumed day and night in looking after the body, thinking that this is the sum total of who we are is perhaps the biggest deception of our time. We chase after material goods and worldly pleasures to satisfy the greed of the body, while the needs of the soul go

The Practice Of Meditation

As with anything else, the more we practice meditation, the more we feel the benefit of what we are doing. We do need to practice meditation regularly because the habits of: i. identifying with our physical form, ii. succumbing to mental and emotional negativity (in the form of waste and negative thoughts) along with negativity in words and actions, iii. becoming attached to the physical as well as the non-physical, and iv. being dependent upon the experience of physical stimulation of any sort (from e.g. food, movies, people, sports etc.) for happiness are extremely deep. These habits have deepened over a period of time, because of repeating them regularly, due to a lack of spiritual awareness. As a result, in the present moment also we regularly and quite easily slip into these four habits. We regularly and quite easily slip into four main negative habits. So meditation is not only sitting in a quiet corner, and connecting with the self and the Supreme, at a couple of fixed times dur

Fascinating Facts You Might Not Know About Phone Numbers

You may have heard some interesting and already common facts about mobile phones on occasion. But what about the phone numbers that give you that unique mobile identity and make using your phone possible. Here's ten great facts that you may have never heard before:  Invention of Phone numbers Before their invention, phone calls were made by dialing the phone service first and requesting a phone operator sitting on the other end with various lines used to connect us to the person we wanted to contact. This was all fine and dandy until the process was questioned by Alexander Bell's (the inventor of the phone himself) friend Dr. Moses. Because the town was infected with an epidemic of measles, the doctor advised initiating a new system without involving these operators for if any one of them fell ill, the others would find it difficult to understand the system and keep it running. Hence, the system of names was replaced by numbers dialed directly by the callers themselves. The ver

No Human Being Is Perfect!

Do you like yourself? Your whole self? Most young people have trouble with the way they perceive themselves. They fail to see value in themselves, fail to see talent, and fail to see ability. It's wrong! You are not the only one in the world with negative feelings about yourself! We all have something we don't like in our body as well as our mind for that matter. Let's figure out what is this problem all about and fix it as soon as we can. On one side, we have ones labeled as 'gifted '.They are the motivated ones, the ones that have passion, popularity most of the time and turn heads everywhere they go. Some youngsters actually earn that through hard-work. On the other hand...well... most of us know what means to be sitting in a corner, away from the spotlight and wondering: "I wish I knew that popularity too, it must be so cool!" Most members of today`s society fail to notice that there is no such thing as 'gifted 'and 'ungifted'. We fail

 Bondage

"Why does my husband constantly create hell for me? He is possessive of me, which makes both our lives miserable. I need to understand his psychology." Complained a woman to a Swamiji. The Swamiji said, 'Just look around; we find the whole world is like a university of understanding. Each incident teaches us something very profound.' We are in bondage and don't realise it. In order to come out of this, first we should realise that we are in bondage. The bondage may be due to any of the following: 1. Insecurity 2. Possessiveness 3. Struggle for power 4. Fear 5. Greed If we understand insecurity closely, we find that insecurity is not a real problem. In fact, our concept of security is the real problem. Insecurity is a form of change. Our insecurity will disappear if we look at change as something to be experienced without our ignorant concept of security. Another great bondage is that of greed…..greed for money, name, fame….People sacrifice happiness for the sake

Still the "Material Girl", Madonna out earns Lady Gaga on Forbes list.

The "Material Girl" still has it. Madonna easily surpassed singer Lady Gaga and veteran rockers Bon Jovi as the highest-paid musician in 2013, Forbes said on Tuesday. Madonna earned $125 million, most of which was from her hugely successful MDNA tour, which grossed $305 million, as well as merchandise sold at concerts and a clothing line and fragrance. "Madonna is living up to her nickname: the Material Girl tops our list of the top-earning musicians by a wide margin," Forbes said. Second-place Lady Gaga, 27, earned $80 million and Bon Jovi, came in third with $79 million. Like Madonna, 55, they all had hefty earnings from tours. Lady Gaga's latest tour brought in $168 million before it was cut short due to her hip injury that required surgery. Bon Jovi's concerts gross more than $3 million per city. Forbes compiled the list of the 25 highest-paid musicians by estimating income for the 12 months between June 2012 and June 2013 using data fr

A Generous Business Partner.

One day, a very wealthy man was walking on the road. Along the way, he saw a beggar on the sidewalk.   The rich man looks kindly on the beggar and asked, "How did you become a beggar?   The beggar said, "Sir, I've been applying for a job for a year now but haven't found any. You look like a rich man.   Sir, if you'll give me a job, I'll stop begging."   The rich man smiled and said, "I want to help you. But I won't give you a job.  I'll do something better.   I want you to be my business partner. Let's start a business together.   The beggar blinked hard. He didn't understand what the older man was saying. "What do you mean, Sir?   "I own a rice plantation. You could sell my rice in the market. I'll provide you the sacks of rice.   I'll pay the rent for the market stall..   All you'll have to do is sell my rice. And at the end of the month, as Business Partners,  we'll share in the profits.   Tears of joy r

7 PRINCIPLES OF EAGLES.

Trusting God won't make the mountain smaller but it will make climbing easier. Hope you will be able to climb all your mountains always. PRINCIPLE 1 Eagles fly alone at high altitude and not with sparrows or other small birds. No other bird can get to the height of the eagle. Stay away from sparrows and ravens. Eagles fly with Eagles PRINCIPLE 2 Eagles have strong vision. They have the ability to focus on something up to five kilometres away. When an eagle sites his prey, he narrows his focus on it and set out to get it. No matter the obstacles, the eagle will not move his focus from the prey until he grabs it. Have a vision and remain focused no matter what the obstacle and you will succeed. PRINCIPLE 3 Eagles do not eat dead things. They feed only on fresh prey. Vultures eat dead animals, but eagles will not. Be careful with what you feed your eyes and ears with, especially in movies and on TV. Steer clear of outdated and old information. Always do your research well. PRINCIPLE 4

The Ageing Eye: See into Your Future

Even a slight deterioration of any of your senses can be scary. Not only can it interfere with your safety and your ability to understand your surroundings, but also it can have a huge impact on your overall comfort and independence. Still, as you age, some decline in your senses is expected. Eyesight is often one of the first senses affected by ageing. But you can minimise the impact of age-related vision loss on daily life, boost eye health in general, and reduce disease risk by monitoring vision changes, identifying problems, creating an eye-friendly environment, and adjusting your lifestyle habits and dietary choices. How's Your Vision? Your first step in protecting your eyes is to distinguish between vision changes that are due to normal ageing processes and vision changes that may be signs of disease. Only a doctor can diagnose eye disease, so if you haven't been keeping a regular schedule of checkups, consider making an appointment today. In the meantime, the quick test

Work slavery in Nigeria

The damning report of the Australian anti-slavery campaign group, The Walk Free Foundation that Nigeria sweeps the board in mustering the highest number of people living in modern slavery in Africa is not only on the threshold of verifiable truth, but also in the crucible of sordid reality. The foundation which defines modern slavery in the vistas and themes of human trafficking, forced labour, debt bondage, forced marriage, sale and exploitation of children, tangentially obviates work place slavery, seedy and sub-human working conditions. However, for this pardonable lacuna, it blares out, "Victims of modern slavery, have their freedom denied, and are used and controlled and exploited by another for profit…."  That notwithstanding, it is logical and tenable to aver that if the organization had considered critically Nigerian work places and the working conditions of Nigerian workers, the published figures of 670,000 and 740, 000 (Nigerians living in modern slavery) would hav

Court orders police to pay N1m damages to lawyer.

Makurdi - A Federal High Court in Makurdi on Thursday ordered the Benue Command of the Nigeria Police to pay one million naira to Apaa Ayie as damages for violating his fundamental human rights. Ayie, who is the Legal Officer of Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC), filed the suit against Insp. Kartyor Terwase, Mr Theophilus Ajila and the Commissioner of Police, Benue Command. The plaintiff, in his testimony before the court, said that he was arrested, tortured and detained on February 5 by the defendants in the course of his duty at Lessel in Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue. He said that he went to Lessel Police Station to secure the bail of some members of staff of BSIEC who were detained there but all the efforts failed. Ayie further said that he promised to take legal action against the police, and the second defendant, who is the Divisional Crime Officer (DCO), ordered him out of the police station. He said he was already leaving the station when the first d

No Means Yes.

Anyone can say no, but only the right one can say yes! At my first corporate sales job in New York, the new sales people were sent to Chicago for a two week orientation of techniques for success in sales. One of the most important pieces of advice was to always be turning every objection into a 'yes', or opportunity to approach closing 'the deal'. In addition, we were told to make sure the person connecting with was one who could say 'yes', as the wrong person to fulfils any request is only going to say no. That attitude is a marvellous way to explore in life's many intricate situations. One who says no, yet can say yes should be evaluated in your mind and heart as to how much 'yes' energy it means to you? Ask yourself if it is well spent energy to keep turning the objections into movements to an affirmative and desirable response for your intention. Always, common sense from a heartfelt, sensitive, empathetic, sincere approach opens life's doors

Facebook Tried To Buy Snapchat For $3 Billion.

By Chris Crum Snapchat reportedly turned down a $3 billion (or more) acquisition by Facebook. The private messaging company must really think it's on to something special. Facebook must think so too. That's three times what it paid for Instagram. This piece of news comes from the Wall Street Journal, citing people briefed on the matter, who also say that other companies are courting it as well, and that it will not likely entertain any acquisition or investment offer until early next year. The Journal recently reported on a $1 billion acquisition offer from Facebook. This comes at a time when Facebook is losing teen interest, and even acknowledging that fact. On its recent earnings call, Facebook CFO David Ebersman said, "I want to say a few words about youth engagement on Facebook. As we've said previously, this is a hard issue for us to measure because self-reported age data is unreliable for younger users, so we've developed other analytical methods to help us e
