Facing River of Difficulties

A very tired traveller came to the banks of a river. There was no bridge by which he could cross. It was winter, and the surface of the river was covered with ice. It was getting dark, and he wanted to reach the other side while there was enough light to see. He debated about whether or not the ice would bear his weight. Finally, after much hesitation and fear, he got down on his knees and began very cautiously to creep across the surface of the ice. He hoped that by distributing the weight of his body, the ice would be less apt to break under the load. After he made his slow and painful journey about halfway across the river, he suddenly heard the sound of singing behind him. Out of the dusk, there came a 4-horse load of coal driven by a man singing merrily as he went to his carefree way. Here was the traveler, fearfully inching his way on his hands and knees. And there, as if whisked along by the winter's wind, went the driver, his horses, his sled, and the heavy load of

Jeweler Born with No Fingers Creates Masterpieces Worth Thousands of Dollars

For a person born without fingers, 48-year-old Annette Gabbedey has the most unusual job – she is one of Britain’s most talented jewelry designers and an expert goldsmith. It is surprising that she doesn’t even use special tools to help her work around her condition. Instead, she adapts conventional crafting devices to make the most dazzling and intricate ornaments. Because she has never had fingers, Annette says that she doesn’t feel like anything is missing. In fact she prefers it this way, insisting that she is not disabled. “I tend to look at people with fingers and think well how can you manage with fingers because they must get in the way,” she said. “It is just your own perception of how you look at yourself and for me I was born like it and I have never known anything different.” Annette ties a leather strap around her wrist to hold her files. She also uses a vice to keep the pieces in place as she works. Although she has no fingers, her wrist join

8 Qualities of Remarkable Employees.

Great employees are reliable, dependable, proactive, diligent, great leaders and great followers... they possess a wide range of easily-defined—but hard to find—qualities. A few hit the next level. Some employees are remarkable, possessing qualities that may not appear on performance appraisals but nonetheless make a major impact on performance. Here are eight qualities of remarkable employees: 1. They ignore job descriptions. The smaller the company, the more important it is that employees can think on their feet, adapt quickly to shifting priorities, and do whatever it takes, regardless of role or position, to get things done. When a key customer's project is in jeopardy, remarkable employees know without being told there's a problem and jump in without being asked—even if it's not their job.   2. They're eccentric... The best employees are often a little different: quirky, sometimes irreverent, even delighted to be unusual. They seem slightly odd, but in a really goo

What is Religion?

When we observe riots, wars and battles that take place in the name of religion, it makes us to ask, do we need something called religion at all? Many raise this question with pain, concern and an element of doubt. 'All destructive arsenal such as nuclear bomb, hydrogen bomb, biological warfare, are the result of scientific developments!' Aren't they? Diseases are many because doctors are plenty. Like the manifestation of truth in the above statements, there is also truth in practice of religion. The house is in darkness. Out of anger, if one enters it, one is bound to tumble on various items of furniture. Getting annoyed, throwing the furniture out the house….are not solutions. The reason for the fall is not the furniture, but the darkness. So what has to be thrown out is not the furniture. Once we light the lamp, darkness will disappear and so too will the problem. Religion was not created to cause riots and confusion. It was created to provide peace. Religion was not mea

HAPPINESS IS HEALTH

[FROM THE DESK OF A DOCTOR]    Happiness And Your Health: Which Comes First? One of the most intriguing aspects of recent research is the fact that there is an undeniable link between your health and your level of happiness. There's always been an acknowledged link between the two -- the search for health and happiness as a combination is a popular refrain repeated by millions in all cultures. But now there is a growing body of evidence that says feeling happy actually is not just good for your health, but vital to your health. No doubt you know intuitively that when you feel happy you feel better. Research is now proving that by making your happiness a priority, you will also be significantly improving your overall health -- both physically and emotionally. In fact, it's not much of a stretch to say that happiness is a pre-requisite to good emotional health and to good physical health. By the same token, unhappiness is literally a poison to your ongoing health and longevity. C

THE MIND.

ABOUT OUR MIND Adi Sankara was walking through the market place with his disciples. They saw a man dragging a cow by a rope. Sankara told the man to wait and asked his disciples to surround them. "I am going to teach you something" and continued... "Tell me who is bound to whom? Is the cow bound to this man or the man is bound to the cow? The disciples said without hesitation "Of course the cow is bound to the man!. The man is the master. He is holding the rope. The cow has to follow him wherever he goes. The man is the master and the cow is the slave." "Now watch this", said Sankara and took a pair of scissors from his bag and cut the rope. The cow ran away from the master and the man ran after his cow. "Look, what is happening", said Sankara "Do you see who the Master is? The cow is not at all interested in this man. The cow in fact, is trying to escape from this man." This is the case with our MIND.

AN EYE OPENER !! TIME YOUR MOST PRECIOUS RESOURCE!

When the angel of death came to Joe Smith, to accompany him to his real home, Joe dismissively responded "I am not ready to die as I have so much left to do.  Do you mind coming back later?" The Angel replied, sorry your time is up and we must leave now. Joe enquired, "don't you know who I am? I am Joe Smith, one of the richest men in the world. The Angel nodded "I know all about you as I do everyone else; now hurry along, Let's go." Joe pleaded; "if I were to give you 10% of my fortune, which is over a billion dollars, will you turn a blind eye and return a year later?" The Angel shook his head and replied, "you don't seem to understand Joe. It is time to go" For the next few moments, Joe tried his best to negotiate with the angel giving away more of his fortune for lesser time. He finally succumbed and offered "if I were to give you all my fortune, which is 10 billion dollars, will you give me 5 min

IMPORTANCE OF WALKING.

Walking can add minutes to your life.  This enables you at 85 years old To spend an additional 5 months in a nursing Home at $7000 per month.  My grandpa started walking Five miles a day when he was 60. Now he's 97 years old And we don't know where he is. I like long walks, Especially when they are taken By people who annoy me. The only reason I would take up walking Is so that I could hear heavy breathing again. I have to walk early in the morning, Before my brain figures out what I'm doing.. I joined a health club last year, Spent about 400 bucks. Haven't lost a pound. Apparently you have to go there. Every time I hear the dirty word 'exercise', I wash my mouth out with chocolate. The advantage of exercising every day Is so when you die, they'll say, 'Well, she looks good doesn't she.' If you are going to try cross-country skiing, Start with a small country. I know I got a lot of exercise The last fe

The King's Teeth

Once there was a king who dreamt that he lost all his teeth The king then summoned two dream interpreter to decipher to him the meaning of his dream The first man told the king that the dream means that all the royal family would die.  Hearing that, the king had the guards beat and punish him outside. On the other hand, the second man told the king that the dream means that the king would live longer than the royal family,  which actually means that the royal family would perish first. Because of his wise words, the king grant him a treasure gift. People can escape perils in life by acting rightly, saying rightly and doing things at the right time. The same meaning delivered in different way may produce differing effect. www.josiahdele.blogspot.com

'Golden age' of antibiotics 'set to end'

Far fewer pharmaceutical companies are working on new antibiotics than in the past   We cannot say we weren't warned. The growing threat of antibiotic resistant organisms is once again in the spotlight. Prof Jeremy Farrar, the new head of Britain's biggest medical research charity the Wellcome Trust said it was a "truly global issue". In his first major interview since taking up his post, Prof Farrar told BBC Radio 4's Today programme that the golden age of antibiotics could come to an end unless action is taken. His comments echo those of England's Chief Medical Officer Dame Sally Davies. Last year she described the growing resistance to antibiotics as a "ticking time bomb", and said the danger should be ranked alongside errorism  on a list of threats to the nation. Previous chief medical officers have also warned about the threat from pathogens - bacteria, viruses and parasites. And G8 science ministers in London discussed the danger from drug

Conquering the mind

Any Spiritual path interested in transforming the self, shall start with "conquering the mind." Why? Because our lives are boxed in a mental cage and we cannot truly increase our capacity for enjoyment in life and fullness when our mind jumps from one place into another. This "normal" phenomena of the modern human being, cancels our feelings, which are of paramount importance to enjoy life. In reality there is nothing to "conquer," but the term "conquering" is used to denote that the mind will no longer "run the show" in our lives. That is a great transformation in itself. When the mind runs in an altered state, or non-stop, it is able to take over and affect our body with stress and anxiety and distort our perception of life. For example: Do you recall how your last breakfast took place? Let us say that you need to go to work after eating. See how the mind sends a message to "hurry up" not allowing us to fully enjoy our meal,

Be Content

Wherever I am is wherever I am meant to be, whatever I am doing is whatever I am meant to be doing and whatever everyone else is doing is exactly what they are meant to be doing - this is contentment. If you do want to change where you are, or what you are doing, the first thing is to be content with wherever you are and whatever you are doing right now! Paradoxically that's what attracts opportunities and invitations to be somewhere else! Why? Because you are a living magnet and contentment is one of your most attractive qualities. And the law of attraction says that according to your dominant thoughts so you will attract the people and circumstances into your life. Being content right now attracts the best possible future.  relax7     Loyalty   It is said that the mind can be your best friend or your worst enemy. THE FEAR OF DEATH.

Death is happening at every moment. Yesterday is dead. And you are born today in the present. Death has never an enemy. Real enemy is your non-acceptance of the flow of life and your rigidity on how life should be. You have treated death as an end of life; in fact it is a door to a new beginning. Be happy with the door and do not bang yourself against the door. A man was riding on the horse sitting towards its tail. His wife saw him and screamed at him: "you are stupid; you have abused this beautiful gift I gave you." The husband answered; "you are stupid and you gave me a stupid horse; it is going in the wrong direction and I am seated in the right direction where I have to go." People have an answer in spite of being wrong. An answer does not change our lives, but living and acting wisely does. We would have come across many who say, 'I am God fearing!' This is nonsense. We should love God, not fear Him!' It should be 'God loving' not 'God

In nationwide surveys of adults with diabetic macular edema  — a condition that can ultimately lead to blindness — just 45 percent of respondents said they had been informed by their doctor that diabetes had affected their eyes. Nearly 30 percent already had vision loss in the affected eye.

Experts May Recommend Cutting Sugar Intake.

The World Health Organization is considering cutting the amount of sugar it recommends in your daily diet to half the current limit. Experts are proposing cutting the recommended level that people should consume from no more than 10 percent of their calories from sugar to no more than five percent, based on fears of heart disease, obesity, and tooth decay, The Sunday Times in the U.K. reports. The new requirements equate to about five teaspoons of sugar a day -- about the same as in a Mar bars or in half a can of a soda. "It is political dynamite," said Philip James, president of the WHO-affiliated International Association for the Study of Obesity, in the report. "The food industry will do everything in their power to undermine this." "I would agree with the recommendation to reduce it to five percent," added Shrinath Reddy, a cardiologist and a member of the WHO panel of experts. "There is overwhelming evidence coming out about sugar-sweetened bever

The researchers assigned them to one of three groups: a Mediterranean diet with extra-virgin olive oil, a Mediterranean diet supplemented with mixed nuts, or a low-fat diet, which served as the comparison. They did not get special instructions on losing weight or increasing their physical activity.

These 4 Things Happen Right Before a Heart Attack

Despite what you may believe, heart attacks rarely happen “out of the blue.” In fact, your body may be trying to warn you of an impending heart attack for days, weeks, perhaps even a month or two before it occurs. Unfortunately, by the time you actually recognize you’re suffering a heart attack, it could be too late to prevent death or debilitating heart damage. So-called silent heart attacks, with signs and symptoms that are mild or seem unrelated to the heart, have long concerned cardiovascular expert Dr. Chauncey Crandall. So Dr. Crandall recently created a special free video presentation about the four most sinister warning signs to watch for. Statistics show a clear link between a delay in heart attack treatment and death or disability. That’s why it’s essential to know exactly what your heart is trying to tell you with warning signs like those discussed in Dr. Crandall’s video. Although developed as an educational tool, this video rapidly went viral, surpassing 5 million viewers

Don’t Get Married If…Important Things to Consider Before You Say “I Do”

A few weeks ago I was interviewed on British radio about the “independent woman” debate within the black community. It’s not just in the United States where black women are professing their independence and self-sufficiency, but it’s in black communities around the world. Near the end of the interview, I made a statement that I believe sums up the “independent woman” issue, and hopefully, silences some of the nonsense. What I said was this:

Oduah In Fresh Mess As US College Denies Awarding Masters Programme She Included In CV [SaharaRepoters]

Did embattled Minister of Aviation, Ms. Stella Oduah, deliberately pad up her educational qualifications or is she the victim of high-wired orchestrated moves to remove her office? This and many more will be the question on the lips of many as her integrity has come under public scrutiny once again following the denial by a United States school which supposedly awarded her a Masters’ Degree, that it does not award post-graduate degrees. Her resume, which she presented to the Senate as a ministerial nominee in 2011 indicated she obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) from St. Paul’s College Lawrenceville, Virginia, United States. But a report by SaharaReporters has revealed that the college has never in its 125-year history had a graduate school or graduate program. Dangerous sex Positions For Men

The most common cause of pénile injury is found among the variety of potentially dangerous positions used for séxual intercourse. The most popular is the ‘woman-on-top’. This type of position can result in an impact between the pénis against the female pelvis or perineum that can easily traumatize the pénile cylinders. A pénis becomes érect when the lining of the cylinder within it is engorged with blood.  A pénis fracture can occur when there is trauma to the eréct pénis, resulting in a rupture of the cylinder lining. This very painful injury is often accompanied by an abrupt, distressing cracking noise that is immediately followed by dark bruising of the pénis due to blood escaping the cylinder. In ten to 30% of pénis fractures, the urethra is damaged and blood may be visible at the urinary opening. Given these signs, an injury should be relatively simple to diagnose, right? You would be surprised, even with the unsettling sounds of a fracture occurring, many men don

One moment you’re screaming at each other, the next you’re asking to borrow that dress she bought last week. Outrageous fights can blow over in minutes — something that’s rarely easy with anyone else. 2. What it’s like to have an incredible ally. As Twitter user Nina Licastro put it, “women with sisters have an ally for life, even when fighting amongst themselves.” There’s also the unspoken rule that no matter how much you complain about your own sister, no one else can say a word against her in your presence. 3. How it feels to have a completely honest critic. More often than not, your sister is that person in life who tells you when you’re wrong, poorly dressed, being rude or when something you’re complaining about is actually your own fault. Facebook commenter Peshka Calloway said: “My sisters are the most honest judges, and friends have never compared to what m

Walking may cut breast cancer risk in older women.

Older women who walk every day may reduce their risk of developing breast cancer. And those who exercise vigorously may get even more protection, according to new research. The study of more than 73 000 postmenopausal women found that walking at a moderate pace for an hour a day was associated with a 14% reduced breast cancer risk, compared to leading a sedentary lifestyle. An hour or more of daily strenuous physical activity was associated with a 25% reduced risk, the study found. This is welcome news for women who aren't very athletic. "The nice message here is, you don't have to go out and run a marathon to lower your breast cancer risk," said study researcher Alpa Patel, senior epidemiologist at the American Cancer Society, which funded the study. "Go for a nice, leisurely walk an hour a day to lower your risk," Patel advised. Breast cancer is the leading cancer among women. In the United States, about one in eight women will develop the disease in her l

Heartburn drugs worsen heartburn

Drugs commonly used to treat heartburn and acid reflux may actually cause heartburn. A new study in Gastroenterology found that treatment with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) actually produced heartburn, acid reflux and indigestion in healthy volunteers who took the medication for eight weeks. Although the findings don't necessarily mean that PPIs don't have a valid place in the gastrointestinal armamentarium, they do strongly suggest that overprescribing may be causing harm, the study authors said. "It is beyond any doubt that subjects with reflux disease benefit from and need treatment with acid suppressive drugs," said study lead author Dr Cristina Reimer of Copenhagen University in Denmark. "But it is equally beyond doubt that PPIs are prescribed more or less uncritically for a wide variety of symptoms where the initial effect of the drug is doubtful. Findings 'challenge the liberal prescribing of drugs' "The findings in our study [indicate that] th

50 Cent loses bid to toss sex tape video.

Rapper 50 Cent has lost a bid to end a Florida woman's lawsuit over a sex video posted online with him edited into it as a wig-wearing narrator. A New York judge rebuffed the rapper's request to dismiss Lastonia Leviston's claim in a ruling made public Thursday. Lawyers for both sides haven't returned calls seeking comment. The lawsuit concerns a videotape Leviston made with a boyfriend in 2008. The judge's decision says the boyfriend later provided the tape to 50 Cent without Leviston's permission. The rapper used the footage to make a video featuring himself as a character named Pimpin' Curly. He says he wasn't responsible for the video's 2009 release. But he says it was legally fair to use the images. The woman's lawsuit seeks unspecified damages. www.josiahdele.blogspot.com

Now, an interesting research report into this phenomenon has revealed that when unhappy employees take sick leave regularly, they may in fact be sick. How A Fever Benefits Your Health

Most of our society lives with the idea that health is a state of "feeling good" and "not being sick or diseased." We fear contact with bacteria, viruses and other microorganisms. We use antibacterial soap, sprays, pills, potions and lotions. We are constantly "gearing up" for the next big flu pandemic, etc. In traditional cultures, fevers were always well respected and understood. Most people knew that the fever would build up and then break, much like a wave rolling into shore. Now, our society tries to suppress the fever immediately using antipyretics, or substances that lower temperature. These antipyretics include acetaminophen and ibuprofen. These quickly lower the temperature, but they also silence the body and hinder the development of the immune system. This allows the invading organisms to survive and contribute to the formation of chronic disease. Your immune system is a muscle: The immune system functions like a muscle in that must be challenge
