Director General of the National Sports Commission,
Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye has showered encomiums on President
Goodluck Jonathan for lifting Nigerian sports in the year 2013 that just
ended yesterday.
The DG of the NSC disclosed that Mr. President single-handedly lifted sports through the Presidential Retreat on Sports he hosted at the Villa which was the magic for the successes recorded in the year 2013.
“We cannot but to thank Mr. President, His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for being our (NSC’s) pillar of support. He practically laid the solid foundation that brought successes and accolades in sports in 2013. He has many times came to our rescue and provided us full support for our programmes and activities. We owed Mr. President a big Thank You”, Elegbeleye said.
He also hailed the positive contributions of the Senate President David Mark to Nigerian sports. According to the DG of the NSC, the Senate President being a passionate sports lover has contributed immensely to the progress of sports in the country most especially through his yearly Basketball Tournament tagged ‘Mark D Ball’ basketball tournament holds in Otukpo, Benue State.
“The Senate President has never hid his love and passion for sports. I was overwhelmed with joy for what I saw in Otukpo when I was a guest at the tournament on December 26th (2013). The leadership of the National Sports Commission is also using this medium to commend the Senate President for promoting the game of basketball in the country most especially through the ‘Mark D Ball’ Basketball Tournament he is sponsoring on yearly basis,” Elegbeleye disclosed.
