Jennifer Ehidiamen, a graduate of the Nigerian Institute of
Journalism (NIJ), Ogba, Lagos, western Nigeria, has won the first
Innovative Young Journalist Award organised by Journalists For Christ,
JFC.
Ehidiamen beat two other nominees to clinch the award and grab the N30,000 cash prize.
She was announced winner on Saturday at an event held at the Excellence Hotel in Ogba area of Lagos.
“I would like to give all the glory back to God almighty,” she said.
“I am proud to be a product of NIJ. By God’s grace I pray that my generation will keep God’s standard in journalism,” Ehidiamen added.
Ehidiamen beat Alade Abiodun, a journalist with National Mirror Newspaper and Hannah Ojo, a freelance journalist with The Nation Newspaper.
While Abiodun is a graduate of Lagos State University, LASU, Ojo is a graduate of English Language from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife.
There were seven contestants but only three were nominated, said Lekan Otufodunrin, NJC President.
Ehidiamen, a poet, is a New Media Fellow at International Reporting Project.
She is currently on national youth service scheme in Nasarawa State, northern Nigeria. She is also reporting for Global Press Institute on global health and development in Nigeria.
Ehidiamen recently published a book titled Half a Loaf & a Bakery (Learning by doing before graduation).
Journalists For Christ, JFC, is a Christian based organisation, which has been in existence for 15 years.
